Empathy workshop

Empathy workshop is a good way to help researcher to have a general understanding about the stakeholders in the project and think from a holistic view. This is an easy way to prompt an empathy understanding for users with special conditions. (IDEO, 2003)

♢  Do this empathy workshop with a group of people (the number depends on how many stakeholders in the project). They would have different understandings of the same issue because of their different life experiences.

♢  Explain who the stakeholders are and their relationships. In this project, the main stakeholder is stroke survivor. Other stakeholders include physiotherapist, care giver and health service provider.

♢  Act as one stakeholder and do a brain-storming to get some ideas of the stakeholder

♢  Write down the issues and needs on empathy worksheet.

The empathy workshop let the researcher to understand how stroke survivors feel, which is helpful to create better communication when interviewing stroke survivors.
